Germany Day 1: Berlin Wall, Oldest Beer Garden

Welcome to Berlin, Germany!

I arrived about 5:30 a.m. on Friday (1:30 a.m. U.S. east coast time) and will be spending some time here this summer for a graduate photography class with Dr. John Freeman from the University of Florida, plus some sightseeing.

I’ll be posting photos and experiences, like the ones below, every few days, if not daily.

Time difference: Berlin is six hours ahead of U.S. east coast time, which makes getting adjusted far much easier than going back six hours.

Public transport: The public bus, tram and subway system is fairly simple to get the hang of and can take you almost anywhere you need to go. There’s even a trip planner online, so all you need is your “to” and “from” addresses, and you get instant directions. Trips on any transportation are unlimited and only constrained by time: two hours is 2.60 euros, and the better deal, a week, is 28.80 euros.

That’s all the time I have for now, but I’ll be posting more soon! In the meantime, check out these first-day photos:
